Oct 8, 2024Globalization brings diverse teams together but also introduces language barriers that can hinder collaboration and productivity. Enter Atlassian Intelligence and the Translations for Confluence app—two powerful tools that, when combined, revolutionize how you create multilingual Confluence pages.
Atlassian Intelligence can help you with a variety of tasks. Regarding Confluence, Atlassian Intelligence proved helpful when summarizing long Confluence pages, brainstorming ideas, or even changing the tone of a text. Translations for Confluence is an app from the Atlassian Marketplace created by bitvoodoo. It allows you to create different versions of Confluence pages for each language you need. To use it, you simply add a macro by typing in / and the language you need, for example /German, to create a German translation. Then, you can enter your content or insert an existing page. Once you’ve created the different language versions, users will only see the page in the language they select in their settings. Unlike other translation solutions, Translations for Confluence doesn’t create a second Confluence page for the translation. This also means the Confluence page you have translated only appears once in the search results, avoiding cluttered search results.
When combining Atlassian Intelligence and Translations for Confluence, translations can be done in seconds. Atlassian Intelligence can also spark new ideas by suggesting different phrasings or angles to consider when writing content. It also helps modify the tone of a piece of writing, making it more formal, informal, persuasive, etc.
The video below explains how to use Atlassian Intelligence in combination with the “Translations for Confluence by bitvoodoo” macro.
Translations can be invaluable in various scenarios. In the following, three everyday use cases are highlighted:
The HR department must ensure that internal policies and processes are communicated clearly and consistently to international employees. The process begins with the HR team creating policy documents in Confluence, the company’s primary language. They then utilize Translations for Confluence macros to create sections on the Confluence page for translations into relevant languages. Atlassian Intelligence is used to provide these translations. The final Confluence page displays the policy document in the language chosen by the employee in the Confluence settings and a dropdown menu, allowing them to switch the language. This approach ensures all employees understand company policies, reduces confusion and potential legal issues due to language barriers, and promotes a more inclusive and informed workplace.
The Customer Support department aims to offer product documentation in various languages to enhance self-service options and reduce the number of support tickets. The process starts with the customer support team building a product knowledge base in the primary language within Confluence. Using Translations for Confluence macros, they create sections dedicated to translations into key customer languages. Atlassian Intelligence is then employed to translate the documentation. This method increases customer satisfaction by providing readily available information in their language and reduces the support team’s workload.
The Marketing or Content Marketing department must often create localized product brochures for international markets. The process starts with the marketing team drafting the core brochure content, including product specifications, in the primary language using Confluence. They utilize Translations for Confluence macros to designate specific sections for translation into target languages, such as paragraphs, product features, or call-to-action buttons. Atlassian Intelligence then translates these sections. The final Confluence page displays a product brochure in all desired languages, which can be exported as a PDF for digital or printed distribution. This approach optimizes time by eliminating manual translation processes, improves brand consistency with centralized, pre-approved translations, and enhances support for global go-to-market strategies.
